Well we all knew this was bound to happen sooner or later. Its now official the has been Rooted, kudos to alldroid.org. but remember that Rooting a device voids its warranty and not all Rooting experiments ends nicely – you have been warned.

md5sum of the boot partition: 3e49d99b320cf5c20bedf09343c1155c /dev/mtd/mtd2

Download the zip file (see downloads in posts below)
Rename to “update.zip” and copy to the sdcard

Power off the DROID and power back on while holding the X key
When you see a “/!\” symbol, press both vol+ and camera
Use the onscreen menu to install update.zip

Once installed you will be able to run “su” from your adb shell.

About a year ago android was not much of a mobile OS, but boy has it come a long way from there. With many major update, Android has advanced itself to a stong mobile OS. While icons and menubars have been polished to fine gloss, and some things are cleaner and better organized—settings, for instance—overall, the user experience is basically the same: three desktops, which you can pack with icons and widgets. Multitouch and Voice commands are two other good things with 2.0. Besides Google Maps Navigation Beta, Android 2.0′s most significant upgrade for regular people is all about contacts and networking. Like the Palm Pre and HTC’s Sense UI, it integrates contacts from multiple sources—namely, Facebook and Exchange (no Twitter yet).
